TSPA’s educational symposium and annual meeting was held Feb 27-28, 2026 at the York 4-H Center in Crossville TN. This event included industry updates, educational sessions on various topics of interest to all sheep producers, and a separate track dedicated to youth. Several venders will be on hand to display items and services available to producers. More details will be posted for the 2027 Program so make plans to attend and bring a friend.
Over 60 sheep producers attended the annual meeting of the association. The speakers were informative as well as entertaining. Various topics were presented including hay grading, mastitis and udder care, lamb selection panel, wool topics and much more. Narrow Gate Farm (Danny and Dillon Jones) provided the lamb for our tasty lunch. The silent auction raised funds for the youth program!
Vendors engaged with attendees and all provided a door prize or auction item. Thanks to the TSPA board of directors for planning and conducting the meeting. Patty Sandville, Area 2 ASI representative, provided an update on ASI initiatives and opportunities. Dee Wolters, TSPA president, presented summary of activities sponsored by TSPA over the past year. As part of the business meeting, new directors were elected: Don Layman, Colby Spicer and Ian Palmer.
Gestation in sheep varies from 142 to 152 days with the average being 147 days. Just like people, individual pregnancies can vary, gestation periods of 138 to 159 days are not unheard of. Ewes carrying multiple lambs tend to have shorter gestations while male lambs (and heavy birth weight lambs) are usually carried for longer than female lambs. The form above calculates the lambing date based on a 147 day gestation period.
